The eight initial maps are Harvest Day, Over and Out, End of the Line, Ascension, Valley Run, Deconstruction, Oasis, and Final Ignition, each with destructible environments, certain atmospheres, and vehicles. The setup of the game is an Attackers vs. Gold Rush was the only multiplayer mode included in the initial release of Battlefield: Bad Company. Additionally, the game features dynamic lighting to correlate with the changing environment. For gameplay purposes, the frames of some buildings and objects remain indestructible to prevent total destruction of key points and to prevent the map from being completely flat. The Frostbite game engine allows 90% of the environment to be destroyed, including buildings, vegetation (including trees, grass, and bushes), vehicles, other players and the ground itself. Unlike some previous versions in the Battlefield series, fixed-wing aircraft such as fighter jets and bomber planes are not available in this game. Airstrikes and Mortar Strikes can also be utilized.īattlefield: Bad Company has an assortment of military vehicles from each of the game's three factions that can be used by the player. The game was hinted at just before the release of Battlefield 2, and announced sixteen months later. It was released in North America on 23 June 2008, followed by a European release on 26 June. It might be the next entry before we truly get there, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.Battlefield: Bad Company is a first-person shooter developed by DICE for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and part of the Battlefield series. Thanks to both Hazard Zone and Portal, however, Battlefield 2042 feels like the turning point for a franchise trying to modernise itself. It holds onto those classic Battlefield moments, even if at times it feels like it needs some fine tuning. It makes some meaningful changes to the Battlefield formula that returning fans like myself may have some issue adjusting to in the opening hours, but prove to be needed amidst this expanded experience. In a market filled with a constant barrage of more of the same, Battlefield 2042 feels moderately unique. I suspect that Portal will really come into its own when more players get their hands on 2042, but it has some serious potential to stand as its own service outside of the traditional Battlefield release.īattlefield 2042 has to be given credit where credit is due. This meant that I could immediately jump into a Battlefield 3 match in a graphically revamped classic map with 128 players, with the same controls and overall feel.
What’s even better is that it features maps, weapons, soldiers, and vehicles from previous Battlefield games including Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.
